365 Days

There is a rather interesting project within the scrap booking community to take a picture and journal about it each day for a full year. I'd have a tough time doing it in scrap form at this time but I think I could do it digitally and I actually started a few days ago. For today, a snapshot of a tiny little suitcase, precursor of those "Going to Grandma's" cases that were so popular a short while back.

This little suitcase was part of the memorial display Nanette's family had set-up for visitors to see a glimpse of her life. Larry Von told Mike and I that Virginia and Nanette had gotten those suitcases as little girls and Nanette has kept hers all these years. (Virginia may have, too. I don't recall if he mentioned.) It was such a small portion of the memorial yet that little case touched me in a special way ... those ties to her childhood, to her parents. The dreams she would have had about trips and adventures to come. Makes one wonder how many of those dreams she realized during her lifetime. For me, that little case also brings to mind the Spirit of Elijah and Nanette's love of genealogy. She shared a special bond with those she searched out in past volumes of records and documents. Like a little child off on a great adventure, Nanette enjoyed the pursuit of a name as much as she enjoyed carrying that name to the temple.

It's good to have ties to your childhood. I'm so glad her family shared a glimpse into Nanette's life.

Saying Good-bye

Saying good-bye is always hard but is especially hard when the time comes to say good-bye to a long-time friend and neighbor. Nanette, I'll miss you. I am so glad you were feeling good and able to be at our Women Together meeting on Saturday - I will cherish the memory of our visit together. And it was so good to see you at church on Sunday. Although you and Ed are often able to make it for church you were also able to stay for Relief Society and it was so very good to spend that time with you, sitting next to you and to hear your input and thoughts on the lesson Misty was teaching. I love you, my friend.
