Earlier today I went out to my friend Barbara's place to check on her dogs and make sure things were okay out there. Barbara is in the valley with another friend who had surgery this morning. The daughter and son-in-law of the woman who had surgery were there visiting and we struck up a conversation, especially after I'd noticed the guitar case and another case sitting in front of the piano. I asked about the cases - the second case was a fiddle case, two well-tuned fiddles just waiting to be played!
For the next hour and a half, I enjoyed a personalized concert of old-time fiddle music! Can you believe it??? Wow. It was a treat! The first 10-12 tunes, Sharon played the fiddle and Larry accompanied her on the guitar. Then Larry played the fiddle, maybe another 8-10 tunes and Sharon played the guitar. That's when I could really see the gorgeous inlaid mother of pearl and inlaid abalone pearl lining the edges and decorating the neck of the guitar. It was gorgeous. A nice afternoon was made extra special by a few strands of wire stretched across a bit of wood and some mighty talented fingers!
