Okay, so I've given Zena a hard time ... on more than one occasion, about her hankering for playing Wii. Some would call it an obsession but knowing Zena like I do, I know that when she obsesses, she really obsesses. ;-)
All kidding aside, we have talked about how Wii has been such a marvel for her in moving her arms and also for movement of her hands. Polio is such an odd affliction. While it may impair an entire limb, as in her legs, it can also impair parts of a limb as in her upper extremities. One arm works well while the opposite hand works well. It's given Zena a bit of reprieve at times, like with driving or manuevering her wheelchair, but all in all it has also made life quite difficult.
Then, along comes Wii.
Seriously, there have been times we'd be talking on the phone and the realization would sweep over me, she's gone, she's drifted ... that stupid game. Then her laughter as she apologizes and tells me I have to try this game; it is so much fun.
The time has come, I must quit dissin' the Wii. No, I didn't get the game! All y'all know I am far too obsessive to get started on something like that! It was hard enough weaning myself from the original Mario Brothers arcade games. I'll stay my distance from Wii. Still, I must quit giving her a hard time about that pesky little game unit. It has been theraputic for her and has given her, at least, a bit more confidence to try other things. Other things like air rifle in the Michigan Wheelchair Sports Games last week.
Guess who rolled away with Top Female Athlete award? Uh-huh Two years in a row no less! Way to go, Z. I am so proud of you and I waited long enough for you to post a message about it. With the Ohio Games coming up in Columbus, you likely won't get around to pictures or boasting for another month or two! I am so impressed - not only the events you typically participate in but also adding something new to the mix and excelling there, too. Way to go, girl!
